Do we have the youth hormone?

Gifted with a difficult, tongue-breaking name, dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) is a youth hormone secreted by the body. Its shortages begin to bother us already in our forties, when no one is yet eager to slow down the pace of life. DHEA is an extremely important hormone secreted by the adrenal cortex. It stimulates the production of testosterone and estrogens, i.e. sex hormones, but also has a very positive effect on the physical and intellectual condition.

High DHEA levels are a sign of youth. Its concentration in blood varies depending on age. Over the years, the hormonal balance has undergone unfavorable changes. Then not only does the production of sex hormones decrease, but also, among others, DHEA level. Doctors associate this process with the development of atherosclerosis and hypertension, with osteoporosis, diabetes, depression, malaise, sexual dysfunction, and general weakness. Scientists have shown that very low DHEA levels are associated with an increased risk of death.High DHEA levels are a sign of youth. Its concentration in blood varies depending on age. Doctors associate this process with the development of atherosclerosis and hypertension, with osteoporosis, diabetes, depression, malaise, sexual dysfunction, and general weakness. Scientists have shown that very low DHEA levels are associated with an increased risk of death.

The aim of DHEA treatment is to supplement its deficiency, as its concentration decreases with age - we produce a lot of DHEA in youth and very little in old age. DHEA is a weaker hormone than testosterone, but has several effects. It affects the sexual sphere, mainly libido and potency, and its deficiency causes a decrease in libido and erectile dysfunction. It is a hormone that significantly influences the broadly understood quality of life, mainly in terms of our psyche. Depressed patients often have DHEA deficiency and this is one of the main symptoms of DHEA deficiency. Therefore, we use Biosterone (DHEA) in the treatment of patients with depressive disorders, reduced quality of life and sexual disorders, and these are the main indications for its use. - says Dr. hab. n. med. Michał Rabijewski, andrologist and endocrinologist.

Dehydroepiandrosterone is an intelligent hormone. It is secreted by the adrenal glands, but from there only its further path begins. Circulating with blood, it reaches various tissues of the body and performs useful functions in them. In the sex glands, it is involved in the formation of estrogen and testosterone. It helps to maintain the appetite for sex and the pleasure of practicing it. In the brain, it acts as a neurotransmitter responsible for good mood, is involved in the processes of remembering and improves the quality of sleep. It also contributes to better bone mineral density. In addition, it strengthens our immunity, inhibits the development of atherosclerotic lesions, prevents obesity and insulin resistance, helps to keep muscles in good condition and is responsible for the elasticity of the skin and the condition of mucous membranes.
Menopause and andropause have long interested doctors. Recently, they have also been investigating the phenomenon of andrenopause, i.e. an age-related decrease in the activity of the adrenal glands, with increasing attention. During the Seaside School of Menopause and Anti-Aging conference in Gdynia, nearly 200 doctors discussed these topics, stated that they had high hopes for the possibility of supplementing the DHEA hormone deficit.
